Imagination Factory

What inspires a mind to create a Nissan Murano or a Skyline 350GT? What are limits of one's imagination when it comes to creating such beautiful and powerful vehicles that stir the deepest of emotions? It is a known and respected fact that Nissan has always been on the forefront of automotive design. And in this tradition of always being one of the first, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., will be the first automotive manufacturer to impart their culture of advanced automotive design through a year-long series of design forums throughout Asia starting in Singapore at the end of August.

"This event aspires to tell the story of how the company's designers derive inspiration from their living environment, personal values and vision to drive their designs works," heads the official statement from Nissan Asia Pacific.

The Nissan Design Forum, titled Imagination Factory, will explore new design frontiers through discussions between Nissan's designers and designers from various disciplines across the creative and design industries. "We hope this event will go a long way in sharing our creativeness with designers and students in Asia, as well as raising the public's interest in automotive design," said Shiro Nakamura, Nissan's chief creative officer.

One highlight will be a workshop, which Nissan's designers will conduct for student representatives from some nine design schools and tertiary institutions in Singapore. During the workshop, students will not only have the chance to exchange ideas and perspectives with Nissan's designers but also have their design concepts and works critiqued.

Through an exhibition that will demonstrate the design process behind transforming ideas from a concept to a car, the Nissan Design Forum will allow visitors to experience and explore automotive design as a form of art - from the inside out. "The Nissan Design forum was also conceptualized to provide a template for similar activities globally," says Raymond Tribdino, Senior Manager for Market and Product Planning at Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. "Many lessons will be imparted and learned from the design forum that will be of influence to future designers."

Supported by Design Singapore Council, the Nissan Design Forum and exhibition is a project of Nissan Asia Pacific, a fully owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co. in Japan. It started last August 31st and was opened to the public from September 1st to 3rd. The event was held at the ARTrium in MICA Building.

Nissan Asia Pacific was established in 2005 in Singapore with an initial capitalization of US$10 million, NAP serves as a regional headquarters for the ASEAN region and Hong Kong, managing and coordinating Nissan's core corporate functions, including regional marketing and sales, product planning, corporate communications, aftersales and franchise management. Nissan's total vehicle sales volume in Hong Kong and the six ASEAN markets of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, amounted to 107,584 units for year ending 2005.(NMPI News Service)
