Nissan Dealers Ready to Service X-TRAILs Affected by Worldwide Recall
Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) President and CEO Leman Lee announced that NML already shipped the fuel filler tubes that will replace the ones presently installed in X-TRAILs that need replacement before its tube mounting bracket develops rust in 10 to 15 years.
"There was absolutely nothing to worry about regarding rust and leak immediately developing at the mounting bracket of the fuel filler tube because that will take 10 to 15 years to happen. Nonetheless, NMPI and NML chose to take a very proactive step on this issue, by assuring the concerned part will be replaced by Nissan dealers free of charge within the year," Mr. Lee said.
X-TRAILs sold in the Philippines up to December 2004 are covered by the recall. Affected X-TRAIL owners can just contact their respective Nissan dealer to set an appointment to replace the fuel filler tube. They also have the option of having the said part replaced during the regular maintenance check of their X-TRAILs.
"We have not yet received any complaint regarding leaking from the fuel filler tube since NMPI announced the recall in February. Nonetheless, we made sure this issue would be addressed within the year, and parts from Japan have already arrived," explained Rolando Gutierrez, Service and Customer Support Manager at NMPI.
It was in the last week of February that NML announced a worldwide vehicle recall affecting a total of 475,400 units of the Nissan Primera and Nissan X-TRAILs.
Countries affected by this recall include most markets where the X-TRAIL is sold, including the major car markets like Japan, and Europe. X-TRAIL units sold in Africa, the Middle East and Asia/Oceania, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand are also affected. Only Canada, which introduced the X-TRAIL last year, is not included in the recall list.
In the Philippines, some 4,000 X-TRAILs are affected by the recall, particularly those sold up to December 2004. More than 6,400 X-TRAILs were sold in the Philippines country since its introduction in July 2003. (NMPI News Service)
