Nissan's new President takes office on Labor Day
A change of hands happened at Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) over the Labor Day holiday as its newly-appointed president Allen Chen takes over executive functions at the Sta. Rosa automaker. Leman Lee, its previous President and Chief Executive Officer ended his 4-year tour-of-duty on April 30 to rejoin Yulon-Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. as one of its executives.
Mr. Chen was a colleague of Mr. Lee at the Taiwanese industrial giant, Yulon Motors where he handled various positions in marketing, sales and product planning. Immediately before joining NMPI, Mr. Chen was connected with the Sales and Marketing Division of Yulon-Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., a consolidated company of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. in Japan.
"NMPI has gone a long way since Mr. Lee joined in 2003," narrates Dennis Chang AVP of Marketing, Sales and After-sales Division. "In the four years that he has managed Nissan Motor Philippines, the company had struggled to grow in the most trying times and succeeded."
"Mr. Lee's administration saw the launch of the Nissan X-TRAIL in July 2003," continues Mr. Chang. "The X-TRAIL quickly became the company's main volume driver selling an average of 200 units per month since its introduction. He was also responsible for the launch of the Nissan Murano in March 2006 and the Teana in February 2007. Also overall improvement in NMPI's operations was felt and reflected in the company's brand image improvement," he adds.
Taiwan-born Allen Chen studied in National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan majoring in Transportation Management. He joined Yulon in 1991 as Marketing Specialist. Mr. Chen's tenacity and passion for cars quickly brought him up the ranks in Yulon, finally landing him executive duties at NMPI.
Mr. Chen has already finalized his action plan for NMPI including the introduction of all-new models in the next three years and the release of an all new MPV by 2008. He also has plans to further improve major operational functions of the company, increasing productivity and balancing cost-reduction improvements with marketing investments for brand image improvement and customer oriented activities.
"Customer satisfaction is one major point in my agenda for NMPI," explains the incoming NMPI president. "Our loyal customers have come to expect only the best in our products and services and we will aspire to live up to their expectations," he adds. "Most of our resources will be directed to major improvements in this area. We will do it by delivering high quality products and even higher quality service."
As for his upcoming plans for NMPI Mr. Chen comments, "I am committed to continue the gains made by NMPI in the areas of brand image and management. But we need to further increase the value we provide to our customers in terms of service and product. To do this we are determined to meet the future challenges with stronger and more decisive management actions."
