Nissan's Design Forum - "Imagination Factory" -Comes to the Philippines
- Nissan Design Forum Created to Inspire a Next Generation of Automotive Designers -
MANILA (Sept. 17, 2007) - In a move to expand new design possibilities and emphasize the role of design in the turnaround of the global Nissan brand, Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) and Universal Motors Corporation (UMC) will bring "Imagination Factory" to Manila from September 21 to 23 at the Esplanade near SM Mall of Asia in Metro Manila.
Each forum consists of a workshop, panel discussion and design exhibition, providing enthusiasts, professional and aspiring designers, as well as the Filipino public a rare insight into the creative processes of taking a vehicle design idea from concept to reality.
"Nissan is the first automotive manufacturer to share the behind-the-scenes process of automotive design," said Simon Sproule, Corporate Vice President for Communications and CSR at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (NML). "Our objective is to educate and inspire the next generation of designers through activities such as workshops, modeling demonstrations and interactive sessions with Nissan designers."
The panel discussion will feature Taiji Toyota, Project Design Director of Nissan Motor Company, who will give a comprehensive presentation on Nissan's design philosophy. Toyota's expertise is a key in the development of the design for Nissan's SUV line-up; in his present role, he is responsible for managing the design for all Nissan models in the SUV, truck and light commercial vehicle (LCV) segments.
Joining Toyota as is Bruce Campbell, Vice-President, Nissan Design America. Campbell is responsible for the design development of the projects assigned to both San Diego (California) and Farmington Hills (Michigan) studios for North American market. Together the team of designers visiting Philippines will offer our audience here a more balanced perspective into Nissan's designing activities on a global scale.
The clay modelist for the event is Hideki Murayama, Nissan Design Center, Japan. Murayama's live clay modeling demonstration will feature the Grand Livina. Precisely engineered to a one-quarter scale, Nissan will also present clay models of several Nissan models, including the new Frontier Navara, the compact electric Pivo concept model, and the much anticipated Nissan GT-R Proto, the first all-new GT-R model in eight years.
As part of the objective of the workshops conducted during the Nissan Design Forum, Filipino students from the high school and college levels would be invited to design a concept car that will be presented during the workshops that will take place on the second and third days of the event. The team of Nissan designers and modelist will critique the work and offer students their views and advice. Exhibits featured at the Nissan Design Forum will include a glossary of Nissan design principles, color samples, tool kits and sketches that exemplify the best of Nissan design. Launched in Singapore in August 2006, the Nissan Design Forum - "Imagination Factory" - has, so far, been shared with audiences in Taiwan, China and Malaysia this year.
