The Restyled Cefiro - The New Look of Luxury While styling is a key decision factor in choosing a luxury car, market dynamics has seen the rise of discriminating buyers who now look beyond the sheet metal.
These changes in increasingly discriminating tastes and discerning judgement have forced car manufacturers to respond quickly by offering luxury vehicles that have more "bang for the buck."
Responding to that, Nissan Motor Philippines Inc. (NMPI) made a rethinking on the Cefiro, which has been a best seller since its introduction in the country.
"The 2005 Cefiro boasts of mechanical superiority and integrity. And with this restyling update, the Cefiro becomes an even more desirable car that can surpass what the competition is presently offering in its segment. It gives a new look of luxury," said Mr. Vir Diwa, NMPI vice president for Marketing and Sales.
The new 2005 Cefiro now comes in two variants, Superior and Classic, replacing the VIP Brougham and the Elite, respectively. Now sporting a new classy yet youthful-looking horizontal grille, headlamps and tail light combination, the 2005 Cefiro now has a younger and fresher styling. The multi-parabola headlamps with crystal lens have innovative corner lights.
Luscious leather appointments and an 8-way power seat with lumbar support as well as a first in its class rear power sunshade are found in the Superior. The sunshade cuts down substantially the ultraviolet rays entering a car's interior, greatly enhancing the cooling of the interior and overall passenger comfort.
For the audio system, the Superior comes with JVC's top-of-the-line 2 DIN radio with single in-dash CD and cassette player, with 12-disc CD changer. Six speakers and a sub-woofer are standard for the Superior, which also has a Heads-Up Digital (HUD) speedometer, a feature only found in the Cefiro.
The Superior and Classic also have fully automatic aircon with rear vents, dual airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, ABS+EBD+BA (anti-lock brakes+electronic brakeforce distributor+brake assist) and back sonar.
While the Cefiro has lots of features and a fresher styling, it would be nothing if its engine is just an ordinary run-in-the-mill unit. And underneath the Cefiro's hood is the class-leading 6-cylinder VQ engine: the VQ20DE.
The VQ20DE belongs to the VQ engine family which has been listed for eight straight years as one of the 10 best engines in Ward's Automotive World, a highly respected automotive publication in the US. The VQ family of engines combine the use of precious metals, lightweight materials and race-bred engineering. An aluminum engine block, cylinder heads, and pistons give the VQ engines reduced weight, but still boast of superior strength. Friction-reducing measures include microfinished crankshafts, resulting in smoother running and longer engine life.
Producing a massive 165 PS at 6,400 rpm, and 19.3 kg-nm of torque at 3,200 rpm, the VQ20DE engine can propel the Cefiro to high cruising speeds.
"A lot of engine designs are no longer used by car markers for their high-end vehicles once it nears its 10th year. But the VQ engine series remains the choice of Nissan for its high-end models, like the Murano, Maxima, Quest and the 350Z," Mr. Diwa said.
When it was first introduced in the Philippines, the Cefiro immediately generated a loyal following who not only appreciated its classy styling, but also its superb engine and safety features, like airbags and ABS.
As the years went by, NMPI added more interior space and amenities to the Cefiro, and made as many safety features standard. It easily became the benchmark of luxury cars.
Today, discriminating buyers who judge beyond the sheet metal very well know the Cefiro has a lot to offer in terms of power and integrity.
"Definitely the Cefiro's restyling gives luxury a new look, and combined with its mechanical superiority and integrity, those who purchase one will definitely end up with one very intelligent buy," Mr. Diwa said. (NMPI NewsService)
